JEDI - Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion

JEDI Vision Statement

Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are core values that enable us to connect to, and respond to, the needs of our members, employees, and all communities within British Columbia. We commit to reflect the diversity of British Columbia and to preserve our collective future through continued leadership in sustainability.

Living up to our Green principles of Participatory Democracy, Sustainability, Social Justice, Respect for Diversity, Ecological Wisdom and Non-Violence, requires our commitment to fostering justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We believe embracing diversity involves:

  • Being fair, equitable, accessible, and transparent
  • Engaging with equity-seeking groups to determine the real and perceived
barriers they face, and how we can dismantle them
  • Having representation that better reflects the diversity of our province
  • Creating safe spaces to discuss difficult topics
  • Educating staff, volunteers, members, supporters, elected officials, as well as British Columbians, in general, on issues affecting equity seeking groups, and motivating them to take actionable steps to dismantle systemic barriers affecting societal equity
  • Staying up-to-date on issues affecting equity seeking groups and adapting our approach accordingly
  • Recognizing that issues of equity and diversity must be approached through an intersectional lens

Would you like to join us?

The BC Green Party is seeking members to join our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. Our goal is to have a cross-section of lived experiences, including geographical location, that will be able to help guide The BC Green Party to ensure there is JEDI in all corners of our party, from our public policy to our application forms just like this.

Members will have a passion for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, be comfortable sharing opinions and hearing other peoples’ opinions, advocating for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and bring diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences to the team.

As a member, you will have the opportunity to work on identifying and eliminating barriers, developing strategies to ensure natural growth of JEDI within The BC Green Party, and creating short and long-term strategies for the JEDI Committee and the BC Green Party

This committee will work to represent people from across our province, and across lived experiences including; Indigenous identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or age of that person or that group or class of persons (BC Human Rights Code [Section 7 (1)]).

If you feel that you bring experiences that would be beneficial to this committee but do not see yourself represented above, we encourage you to tell us about your lived experience in the application below.

We are asking that you commit to meet once monthly, and are able to commit 5 - 10 hours per month to JEDI initiatives and committee work. Members are asked to make a minimum one-year commitment to the committee.
