Premier Eby: Climate leaders don't expand fossil fuels

On Tuesday, March 14, at 1:15pm, the BC NDP approved the Cedar LNG project.

Then, just over an hour later, the BC NDP announced plans to cap oil and gas emissions.

Approving another LNG project on the same day you announce a plan to reduce climate pollution from LNG facilities doesn't add up.

The government can't hit BC's climate targets while continuing to expand fossil fuel infrastructure.

Sign our petition now to tell Premier Eby to stop expanding fossil fuels.

Before David Eby was sworn in as premier, he acknowledged that fossil fuel expansion does not equate with BC's climate goals. About five months later, he reneged on his word and approved a new fracked gas project: Cedar LNG.

On the very same day, Eby also unveiled a new cap on oil and gas emissions and a requirement for new LNG facilities to be "net-zero" by 2030.

Greenlighting a new LNG project on the same day you announce to reduce climate pollution from new LNG facilities makes zero sense.

Fossil fuels like LNG have no place within the budget of a province that is taking the climate crisis seriously. It's time to ditch LNG investments and fund the transition to clean energy.

Stand with us by adding your name to the BC Greens petition and call on government to:

  • Cancel Cedar LNG, following through on their commitment of no new fossil fuel infrastructure
  • Recognize that the BC NDP is long overdue on its promise of stopping fracked gas projects
  • Invest in the transition to clean energy
