CONSTITUTION

of the GREEN PARTY POLITICAL ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

As Adopted June 4, 2016 at the 2016 AGM in Victoria, BC.

The name of the Society is the Green Party Political Association of British Columbia.

The purposes of the Society are:

  1. To carry on the functions of a provincial political party and work toward electing Green Party Members of the Legislative Assembly.
  2. To promote the implementation of policies that will result in environmental, economic, social and fiscal sustainability in British Columbia.
  3. To advocate for progressive behaviour by individuals and corporations whereby they make morally equitable decisions, guided by a set of socially, economically and environmentally just rules.
  4. To uphold the 6 core green principles:
    • Participatory Democracy. Working to create proportionally elected governments that represent and engage citizens;

    • Sustainability. Using natural resources wisely to protect the rights and needs of future generations;

    • Social Justice. Acknowledging that all humans have a fundamental right to health, wellbeing, and freedom;

    • Respect for Diversity. Protecting and valuing all cultures and individuals while conserving variety in the natural world;

    • Ecological Wisdom. Learning to live within the physical and biological limits of our Earth and to protect its life-giving nature;

    • Non-Violence. Safeguarding people’s security and freedom through cooperation and consensus building.

  5. To support the work of like-minded organizations, and elections of representatives at other levels of government.
